Sgt. Gene Fairs Obituary

Gene Fairs transitioned to his new heavenly home on August 8, 2019. He died peacefully surrounded by his family. Gene Fairs was born on April 22, 1945 to the late Pearl Prater of Piedmont, Alabama. He was an only child. He was preceded in death by: his mother, Pearl Prater and Aunt Magnolia Johnson.

He established his faith in Christ at Thankful Baptist Church at an early age.

Gene graduated from Bethune High School in Piedmont, Alabama as the valedictorian of his class in 1963. He continued his education at Ayers College and graduated with an HVAC degree. He also obtained a certification in surveying.  He served his country in the United States Air Force and fought in the Vietnam War. Gene retired as a material handler from Bynum in Anniston, Alabama. He worked for the United States Government for a total of forty-three years.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 53 years Carol Fairs , three beloved sons, Zachary (Sandie) Fairs of Huntsville, Alabama, Curtis Fairs, Adrian (Erica) Fairs; one special granddaughter, whom he called “Heather Nett” (Courtney) Hood, four grandsons,  Adrian Jr., Tadrian, Silas, and Cassius Fairs; two great grandsons, Elijah and Isaiah Young all from Piedmont, Alabama; a special niece, Carolyn Fair of Gadsden, Alabama; an exceptional cousin, Brenda Lawler; five significant nephews, Patrick (Kim) Lawler, Bryant Lawler, Rodney Lawler, Billy Fair, Carlos Fair, two Goddaughters, Veronica Dark and Nicole Keller; special cousins/ brothers,  Terry, LaVoughn, Kenneth, and Walter Prater; four sister-in- laws, four brother- in- laws, a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
